Merrill has sensitive nature and has been rejected by her clan. Treat her with kindness and be supportive to ensure a friendship.

Anders will clash with Fenris, who is strong against mages and is an advocate for their control. He Gozque also clash with Sebastian and Carver.

After a romance is consummated, Isabela, Merrill and Fenris will receive a new outfit. The change is purely cosmetic. Isabela's and Fenris's outfits will change even if you break up with them immediately after sex, and they will not revert to their original outfits even if you romance someone else later (you may have to add Isabela to the party and travel with her for the change to take effect). Developing the relationship gauge to 100% in either direction will lock it in at that point, preventing you from decreasing the gauge. During Hawke's first year in Kirkwall, Dumar put out a bounty for the safe return of his son, Saemus. He was under the impression that Saemus was kidnapped by the Qunari. Hawke’s younger sister and Carver’s fraternal twin, Bethany, is an apostate mage who received her training from her father, Malcolm Hawke. At the beginning of the game, Bethany will accompany Hawke and can become a possible permanent companion if she survives the attack on Lothering.

It is possible to romance with Anders. Complete his companion quests and flirt whenever possible. Be sure to be kind to him and side with the mages whenever he is in your party.
